Cristiano Ronaldo named Fifa Footballer of the year

The 31 year old beat fellow finalist Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid.



Ronaldo won the Champions League, Club World Cup and European Super Cup with Real Madrid and the European Championships with Portugal.

In 2016, Ronaldo won his fourth Ballon d'Or and his second UEFA Best Player in Europe award.

He scored 55 goals (42 for Real Madrid and 13 for Portugal), the last four in Japan where he picked up the Golden Boot in the Club World Cup.

Meanwhile USA's Carli Llyod was named the Women's footballer of the year.
